Immigration Enforcement
Dec 2, 2025 Village board meeting
Agenda: 8.5. Motion in support of the Village Response Policy to Federal Law Enforcement (ICE)
In compliance with Federal Constitutional Law, Mount Prospect Police cannot:
-
Prevent federal immigration enforcement officers from operating in any space that is open to the public at large. This includes streets, sidewalks, public parking lots, and the public portions of Village facilities (e.g. lobbies, public bathrooms, etc.)
-
Interfere with federal law enforcement officers’ investigations,
-
Enforce any type of federal uniform adjustment (like removal of face masks).

As residents, we are asking the Village to take three important steps:
-
Prohibit federal law enforcement from operating on Village property without clear authorization.
-
Require all federal officers to be visibly and properly identified.
-
Ensure federal officers are not masked while interacting with the public.

As an immigrant, I want to ensure every resident is protected and treated with fairness and due process. Mayor Hoefert’s response — advising residents to carry documentation — has caused concern, especially in light of reports of warrantless ICE detentions. Mount Prospect has an opportunity to do better for its community.
